The physiological mechanisms of transport stress determine the necessity of acclimation procedures. Fish endure multiple stressors in sealed transport bags: ammonia continuously accumulating, rising CO2 causing pH decline, dissolved oxygen depletion, temperature fluctuations, and physical stress. Ammonia concentrations in transport bags can reach lethal levels of 5-10mg/L within 24 hours, but under low pH conditions, ammonia exists primarily as ionized ammonium (NH4+) with relatively low toxicity. When the bag is opened and exposed to external higher-pH water, NH4+ rapidly converts to highly toxic NH3. Therefore, directly cutting open the bag and pouring fish into the tank is a fatal mistake. The correct procedure is to first float the sealed transport bag on the aquarium surface for 15-20 minutes without opening it.
Standardized temperature acclimation (Phase One): Float the unopened transport bag entirely on the surface of the main tank or quarantine tank, with lights off. Floating duration: 3 degrees Celsius or less difference, float 15 minutes; 3-6 degrees, float 25-30 minutes; above 6 degrees, perform staged warming. Never use hot water or direct sunlight for rapid warming. During temperature acclimation, gently rotate the bag every 5 minutes. Small fish and juveniles require longer floating times.
Standardized water acclimation (Phase Two) is the critical stage. Pour the transport bag water and fish into a clean bucket or quarantine container. Use the drip method: take a thin flexible tube, with one end in the tank using siphon action or an IV roller clamp to control flow rate at 2-4 drops per second. The goal is to increase bucket water volume to 2-3 times the original over 40-60 minutes. For large water parameter differences, extend acclimation to 90-120 minutes.
Enhanced acclimation protocols for sensitive species: For discus and stingrays, extend acclimation to 2-4 hours and use an infusion pump for precise flow control. Marine fish require 60-90 minutes of acclimation; crustaceans and echinoderms need 2-3 hours of slow drip, using a refractometer. During acclimation, add 1-2 drops of stress coat or water conditioner for mucosal protection.
Quarantine is an indispensable link. New fish should be isolated and observed in a quarantine tank for 14-21 days. Quarantine tank configuration: independent small tank (20-40L), heater, and simple filtration. During the first week, observe fish behavior, appetite, and body surface condition. In the second week, perform preventive deworming and external parasite prevention. Maintain water temperature and quality parameters identical to the main tank throughout quarantine. After quarantine, net-transfer the fish to the main tank.
The 72 hours after introduction constitute the critical observation window. For the first 24 hours, keep lights off or at extremely dim levels. First feeding should occur 24-48 hours after introduction with a very small quantity. During the 72-hour window, closely monitor respiratory rate, swimming posture, body coloration, and social behavior. Isolate immediately if abnormalities appear; never medicate the entire tank when fish are in a stressed state. One week after introduction, fish should be feeding normally, swimming actively, and displaying vibrant colors.

标准化的过温操作(第一阶段):将未拆封的运输袋整体漂浮于主缸或检疫缸水面,关闭灯光以降低鱼只的视觉应激。漂浮时间根据袋内外温差确定:温差<=3℃时漂浮15分钟;温差3-6℃时漂浮25-30分钟;温差>6℃时分步升温,先将袋浮于室温环境20分钟再移入缸中漂浮20分钟。严禁用热水直接加温或阳光暴晒快速升温。过温过程中每隔5分钟轻轻翻转一次袋体确保热量均匀传导。小型鱼(灯科鱼等)和幼鱼对温度变化更为敏感,应取偏长的过温时间。
标准化的过水操作(第二阶段)是决定成败的关键步骤。将运输袋中的水和鱼倒入一个洁净的水桶或检疫容器中(切勿将运输袋的水倒入鱼缸,运输水含有高浓度氨氮和可能存在的病原体)。使用滴流法将缸水缓慢引入:取一根细软管(如打气泵管),一端插入缸中利用虹吸原理或输液管调节阀控制水流速度,每秒2-4滴的速率将缸水滴入盛鱼桶中。目标是在40-60分钟内使桶内的水量增加至原先运输水量的2-3倍,实现缸水与运输水的逐步混合。对水质参数差异大的情况(如pH差>1.0、GH差>5 dH),应延长过水时间至90-120分钟,滴流速率先慢后快。
敏感物种的强化过水方案:七彩神仙鱼和魟鱼等对水质变化极度敏感的鱼种,建议过水时间延长至2-4小时,并使用输液泵精确控制流速(初始20mL/分钟,每30分钟翻倍)。海水鱼和无脊椎动物(虾、海星、海胆等)对盐度和渗透压变化极敏感,海水鱼建议过水60-90分钟,虾蟹类海星等无脊椎动物建议2-3小时缓慢滴流,使用折射盐度计确保终末桶水盐度与主缸一致(偏差<=0.001 SG)。过水过程中可向桶中加入1-2滴应激灵或水质稳定剂(如Seachem StressGuard)提供黏膜保护。
检疫隔离是防应激体系中不可绕过的环节。新鱼在检疫缸中隔离观察14-21天,检疫缸配置:独立的小型缸(20-40L)、加热棒和简单过滤(水妖精或微型上部过滤),无需底砂和造景便于观察和投药。检疫第一周观察鱼只行为、食欲和体表状况,发现异常及时诊治。检疫第二周可进行预防性驱虫(如使用吡喹酮驱除吸虫和绦虫)和体外寄生虫预防(甲烯蓝药浴或低浓度盐浴)。检疫期间维持与主缸相同的水温水质参数,检疫结束后将鱼连同检疫缸水逐步调整至主缸参数,再用捞网将鱼转移至主缸——切忌将检疫缸水倒入主缸。
入缸后的72小时是观察管理的关键窗口期。前24小时保持灯光熄灭或极弱光,减少人员走动和缸前活动,让鱼在安静环境中度过适应期。24小时后逐步恢复正常光照,首次投喂应在入缸24-48小时后进行且量极少(平时量的1/3),观察是否有鱼只拒食。72小时内密切观察呼吸频率(正常小型鱼60-120次/分钟)、游姿(平稳流畅无倾斜旋转)、体色(正常发色无发黑发白)和社交行为(无持续被攻击或躲藏不出)。出现异常及时隔离,切勿在鱼只应激状态下全缸下药,否则加重应激造成二次伤害。入缸一周后鱼只进食正常、游动活跃、体色鲜艳,标志着过温过水防应激操作圆满成功。
