China is rich in local pig breed resources. Taihu pigs, Jinhua pigs, and Rongchang pigs have the characteristics of high fertility and good meat quality. Taihu pigs produce an average of 15-18 piglets per litter, making them one of the most prolific pig breeds in the world. Jinhua pigs have tender meat and are suitable for making ham. Introduced foreign breeds such as Landrace, Yorkshire, and Duroc have the characteristics of fast growth and high feed conversion rate. Landrace pigs can achieve a daily weight gain of over 900 grams, with a feed-to-meat ratio as low as 2.8:1. In the breeding process, appropriate breeds should be selected for crossbreeding improvement according to breeding goals. Commonly used crossbreeding models include three-way crossbreeding (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc) and two-way crossbreeding. At the same time, a complete performance testing system for breeding pigs should be established to scientifically evaluate traits such as growth rate, reproductive performance, and meat quality, select excellent individuals for breeding, and gradually improve the genetic level of the population.
