Lighting is an important environmental factor affecting rabbit physiological rhythms and production performance. Light regulates melatonin and gonadotropin secretion through the retina-hypothalamus-pituitary axis, thereby influencing feeding behavior, growth rate, and reproductive performance.

Research shows that commercial meat rabbits under a 16-hour light + 8-hour dark regimen have significantly better daily feed intake and daily weight gain than other regimens. Light intensity of 40-60 lux is optimal, allowing rabbits to clearly see feed and companions without excessive excitement or fighting.

Lactating does and kits require 14-16 hours of light, with intensity reduced to 30-40 lux to create a quiet, comfortable nursing environment. Breeding bucks are recommended 12 hours of light, as prolonged lighting can reduce semen quality.

For light color, warm white (3000-4000K color temperature) is closer to natural light and helps rabbits maintain normal rhythms. Avoid cool white with high blue light ratios, which may cause stress. LED tubes are energy-efficient, long-lasting, and the preferred choice for rabbit house lighting.

Ensure lighting uniformity, avoiding coexisting dark and overly bright areas. Install lamps 1-1.5 meters above cage tops with 2.5-3 meter spacing. Install lighting controllers for automatic timing. Regularly inspect and replace aging lamps with significant light decay.
