Rabbit cages are core equipment for commercial rabbit farming. Rational cage design significantly improves stocking density, enhances animal welfare, and reduces labor intensity. Large-scale farms mainly adopt stacked or stepped systems.

Stacked cages overlap vertically, achieving the highest space utilization rate with 30-40% higher stocking capacity per unit area than stepped systems. However, ventilation is relatively poor and requires mechanical ventilation systems. Inclined manure deflectors guide feces between layers into collection channels.

Stepped cages stagger each layer backward like stairs. Manure falls directly into collection channels without passing through lower cages, reducing cross-contamination. Ventilation and lighting conditions are better, but land area requirements and infrastructure investment are higher, making them suitable for small-to-medium scale farming.

Hot-dip galvanized wire mesh is recommended for cage material. Bottom mesh should be 1.2x2.5 cm, side and top mesh 2.5x2.5 cm. Slatted bamboo or plastic flooring with 1.0-1.2 cm gaps allows manure passage without injuring feet. Each cage position needs independent drinking nipple and feeder.

Breeding doe cages require nesting boxes of at least 30x40x28 cm. Commercial rabbit stocking density is 3-4 per cage with 0.15-0.20 sq meters floor space per rabbit. The lowest cage tier should be at least 30 cm above ground.
